Event Details
Jarrod Lawson is a composer, keyboardist, and singer who, is heavily inspired by the likes of Stevie Wonder and Donny Hathaway. Like those legends, he incorporates social and spiritual messages into his uplifting sound. His chops suggest a broad range of musical knowledge, including artists with a deeper connection to jazz; as a vocalist alone, he has been favorably compared to Al Jarreau and Mark Murphy. Lawson grew up surrounded by music, due in large part to his father, who operated a recording studio in the family’s Redwood City, California home. First attracted to the drums as a toddler, his interest in music continued to develop throughout his childhood, which included a move north to Oregon, and lessons from his father. In college, he studied music and participated in a chamber choir and jazz ensemble. His reputation as a solo performer was built through numerous gigs in Portland, opening dates for a number of highly regarded R&B and jazz artists, and some international tours. His harmonically rich self-titled debut album was issued in 2014 (on Dome in the U.K., and self-released in the U.S.). It was a favorite of the BBC’s Gilles Peterson, among other DJs and R&B fans who dug beneath the surface of commercial radio.
“There is literally not enough ink in the world to be spilled proclaiming how amazing Jarrod Lawson’s self-titled debut is, we can’t help but feel we’ve not done nearly enough. Behind a deceptively understated and, dare we say, vanilla album cover lies one of the richest, rhythmic, and musically dynamic projects released in 2014.” – L. Michael Gipson, Soul Tracks
“Suffice to say that this soul-jazz jewel of an album is filled with more great songs, musicianship, and vocals than you’d get from any three projects by almost anyone else, not to mention enough addictive, funky riffs and apposite changes to keep you going for months, if not years. I can’t stop playing it and won’t be doing so for some considerable time. Way to set the standard, Jarrod. 5 stars.” – Chris Wells, Soul Sides

January of 2018 will mark two years since the world lost one of its most influential and best loved musicians in David Bowie. In that period of time there have been numerous tribute concerts, both big and small and a worldwide recognition of the wonderful legacy that Bowie left behind.
In 2017, during the October Long Weekend, the tiny NSW outback town of Carinda hosted their annual ‘Let’s Dance’ festival, paying tribute to David Bowie and drawing fans from all over the country. Headlined by Jeff’s Duff’s Bowie Unzipped, the festival demonstrated the dedication of Bowie fans in this country, many whom had travelled thousands of miles to attend the event.
Now in 2018, Jeff and his band are travelling thousands of miles themselves, taking their much acclaimed Bowie Unzipped show on the road, right across Australia, in their most extensive tour to date – beginning in Sydney before a nation wide tour through South Australia, Western Australia and Victoria.
‘Bowie Unzipped’ salutes Bowie’s ever evolving musical career with Jeff’s unique interpretation of Bowie’s remarkable and enduring songbook. Jeff has been singing Bowie’s songs for many years with the glowing support of Bowie’s official website BowieNET.
Together with a killer band, Duffo’s journey to Planet Bowie in 2018 includes the songs: Space Oddity, Lets Dance, China Girl, Life On Mars, Changes, Ziggy Stardust… amongst many other faves.
’Flamboyant, eccentric, charming and with a stunning voice!…Jeff Duff is one of the greatest entertainers Australia has produced’’ – Molly Meldrum

Ralphe Armstrong, performer, composer, producer, educator…is Excited to tour his latest project, Fusion Reunion!
Jazz bass legend and phenom, Ralphe Armstrong, began his classical bass training at Interlochen School of Fine Arts in Michigan. While still a teenager, he was hired by John McLaughlin to perform in the Mahavishnu Orchestra. Since then Ralphe has done countless gigs, tours and recording sessions with Frank Zappa, Jean-Luc Ponty, Carlos Santana, Geri Allen, Larry Coryell, Lenny White, Narada Michael Walden, Aretha Franklin, Earl Klugh, Eddie Harris, Don Sebesky, the London Symphony Orchestra and many, many others.
Gayelynn McKinney, born into the Detroit- based McKinney family of eminent musicians and an active Detroit scene, multi-award-winning drummer with a diverse drumming style that has given her the opportunity to play at many famous jazz festivals including Montreux-Switzerland, the 1996 Olympics, the Woma Jazz Fest in Italy and the Kennedy Center. Check out her impressive list of “side musician” gigs: Aretha Franklin, Freda Payne, Geri Allen, Chaka-Kan, David “Fathead” Newman, Steve Turre and Sonny Fortune to name a few.
Carlos McKinney, Grammy award-winning producer and pianist, born into the Detroit based McKinney family of eminent musicians. He’s studied classical and jazz piano since the age of 4 and has toured extensively, performing many prominent jazz festivals since 1992 with Acts such as Elvin Jones, Sonny Rollins, Wynton Marsalis and Roy Hargrove, to name a few. As a record producer, he’s worked with Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Rhiannon, just to name a few! He’s an amazing talent both on and behind the musical scene.
Rick Margitza is a Detroit born saxophonist now residing in Paris France, who has long been regarded as one of the « Young Lyons » of the International Jazz Scene. Excellent tenor and soprano saxophonist, mostly inspired by John Coltrane, Michael Brecker and Wayne Shorter, he has managed to expand and develop his unique voice, highly poetic and sharply incisive. Between 1989 and 1991, Margitza released three sessions for Blue Note Records and has recorded copiously thereafter, including with Eddie Gómez, Tony Williams, Bobby Hutcherson, Maria Schneider, McCoy Tyner, and Chick Corea.
Regi Wooten is Louisiana-based, Grammy- award-winning guitarist-extraordinaire. When Regi was nine he started teaching his younger brothers Victor, bass guitar and Joseph, keyboards. Immediately the Wooten Brothers Band was formed. He’s known to them as ‘the Teacha’. Regi’s Guitar playing is very unique, coming from his ‘funk perspective’…he developed what he calls, “Funkamonics”. Regi is the real deal. You’ll feel this at his live performances.

Between 1989 and 1991, Margitza released three sessions for Blue Note Records and has recorded copiously thereafter, including with Eddie Gómez, Tony Williams, Bobby Hutcherson, Maria Schneider, McCoy Tyner, and Chick Corea.
